PAWS CAFE

Paws Cafe opened in January 2019 as Shropshire’s first Cat Cafe. The concept is very different to your normal cafe or coffee shop. We have 11 resident cats inside, here you pay for your time and not your drinks. During your stay non alcoholic drinks are included (subject to time stayed). It’s certainly a unique experience and with over 200,000 visitors since we opened, it’s hugely popular.

The first cat cafe opened in Taiwan called Cat Flower Garden in 1998. In 2005 Japan opened it’s first cat cafe in Tokyo and since then there are almost 150 cat cafe’s in Japan, with 58 of these in Tokyo! Cat cafe’s quickly spread across the world as this amazing idea took off with international cat lovers.

Paws Cafe – Owners Katie and James started working on the cafe in July 2018 after finishing their previous careers. Katie, a Teacher and James a Production Engineer. Katie took James to another cat cafe in the UK and he loved the chilled out and calm environment, being a mad cat fan he wanted to start his own cat cafe!

A special thanks to Katie for gifting our son max a calendar as we were leaving as he was so sad to leave the cats, it really cheered him up and he has it up in his bedroom and is counting down the days until we come again! 					  My self, partner and our 17 month old daughter visited this afternoon and we were not disappointed. 

I am obsessed with cats and our daughter seems to be too... read more and as we have a dog we thought this would be a good opportunity to get close and introduce our daughter to them. Her first word when we walked in was WOW! We were greeted by a very excited Bengal who was strutting around and pouncing on things which my daughter found hilarious. We had a drink and made our way around the cats, stroking and saying hello to them all. 

The cats are extremely well looked after, they have some of the best cat trees and beds I have ever seen and also have a place to escape the hustle and bustle if they want to which I thought was nice. 

They have plenty of room to roam around and were 100% comfortable and at ease in their home. 

Some were doing the usual cat thing of sleeping and some were just being bonkers and running around. 

The owners 12 month old son was there and he and my daughter hit it off straight away and were having a baby chat which was fantastic. 

The owners were very welcoming and friendly.

I would recommend this to anyone who loves cats or animals in general but if your not a cat lover doing something like this might just change your mind!

We stayed for an hour which flew by so I do reccomend you book at least an hour. We will definitely be visiting again. Thanks so much.

					  We booked an afternoon tea in advance. On arrival we were greeted by a very welcoming host ( I think his name was Adam). This young man was really engaging... read more and enthusiastic about the cats, their stories and characters. We had a fab time, the cats seemed content in their surroundings and could climb up to beds etc if they weren’t in the mood to engage with visitors.

We would recommend the afternoon tea if you would like a visit to your table from one of the furry vip’s (Darwin or Nala). Be prepared for a close up visit as soon as you tuck in to your food, which was no issue and quite fun watching how the table guest (Nala) had figured out how to try to get under the serving containers with the goodies in. 

Truly fab experience and the best cat cafe we have visited. Beautiful cats, great staff and well worth a visit.
